Umbrella rig help ?

Postby Ed Polz on Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:30 am

I haven't used umbrella rigs before and would appreciate some help. What depths should I run them at and at what speed and what sort of structure and lake depths should I target? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

I'm not expert about trolling.I beleive you pull them 2.5 to three mph and try to get them down 30ft or more depending where the fish are. At the last CAST meeting someone spoke about trolling with leadcore and umbrella rigs. I have not tried that. Leadcore and bucktails work good too and are a little easier. As fare as structure, most people target humps, and open water near trees but not too close of course!

Umbrella rig is used for fishing and this is a very useful tool when trolling for hybrid and striper's.To more accurately emulates school of baitfish the umbrella rig is best one. This is a four arm rig and each is eight to nine inch length.
